You see, it's not that I think it should be spending millions on its Internet presence since many Namibians don't yet have Internet access, let alone a computer or access to one connected to the Internet. But the least the organsiation can do is to keep those pages that it has decided to put online up-to-date, for the sake of those tax-payers who do wish to use the Internet to stay on top of at least some national news. I regularly check the Today's News section on the NBC's web site in the vain hope that I can read at least a couple of the latest stories emanating from its large pool of journalists, only to be disappointed to see yet again that NOTHING has changed for YEARS If you go to the Today's News Rosh Pinah has had ample exposure, since the latest story has been the same of the past YEAR or so. Anyone wake up? Is there anyone to wake up? Does anyone at the NBC CARE TO WAKE UP and update the section? ![]() This is a disgrace!!! To be fair: There may be a budgetary reason, or maybe the NBC does not have staff with the skills, know-how and dedication to keep the site up-to-date every and each day. There may be a very straightforward reason. But, please: turn it off if this is the case and at least tell visitors. I will take back every word I have said here if this is the case. I strongly believe that publishing the web site in its present form merely confirms and reinforces all the stereotypes people from around the world hold and have about us, whether justified or not. It really does more damage than good and it does not make me proud to be a Namibian. Last edited by Uncle Paul; 22nd June 2009 at 10:08 PM.

Well two weeks later and Rosh Pinah still features prominently. Let's see just how long this will take to change.... if anyone actually CARES enough to WAKE UP in the first place.....What are the chances comrades?

| Look Uncle Paul. Let's not beat around the bush....if the NBC Board or management or even its staff was really interested in having a crisp, professional, up-to-date, informative, balanced, objective web site that informs, educates and entertains Namibians at home and abroad (as well as the rest of the entire globe who happen to stumble across the web site) they would have it. I can see why you say it may be a budgetary issue, but really it is not. I can also see why you say it could be a skills or staffing issue. But, really, it is not. That is the magic of software since processes can be automated. It will not take the NBC a huge amount of money to build and maintain a strong online presence since a lot of the content would already be available and would just have to be repackaged. It's being done by hundreds of other national broadcasters the world over, and it's not rocket science. I suspect if you dig a little deeper as to the real reasons for the current state of affairs you would either not get very far, or get nowhere or find out someting really interesting and I'll bet the reasons have to do with - yes you guessed it - politics.

The nbc has lost the most professional announcers/producers/presenters a long time ago... Look at OneAfricaTV! Old hats will soon figure out that the names there sound most familiar - not that I can blame them.

Something is afoot! On visiting the web site today it displayed a whole lot of PHP and MySQL errors which to my non-technical mind basically means that someone is doing something. somewhere to the code underlying the pages on the site.... a promise of better things to come? Let us hope so!

it is simple mismanagement and noone caring. you can be assured that nothing will change quickly. why? why should it? is business as usual: NBC peeps have their jobs, don't rock the boat and keep their head low and who cares about a web site, huh? NOBODY CARES!
